A lab-grown diamond solitaire engagement ring in a white finish, worn on a hand resting on linen

Thirteen Dorvelle pieces come in under $500: a one carat solitaire pendant, four pairs of studs, four pairs of huggies and two-carat earrings, all sterling silver set with lab-grown diamonds and made on 47th Street. Each one is the same design the house makes in 14k gold, cast in silver so the price follows the metal.

Why these make good gifts

A one carat lab-grown diamond on a fine chain is now $150 at Dorvelle, so a diamond gift is a decision about the person before it is a decision about money. The question becomes which piece suits them, not whether the stone is possible.

Every piece ships free and insured in the US, in its own box, with 30-day returns in original condition if the size or the style is wrong. The first re-plating is included. See shipping and returns.

For a first diamond

A first diamond is usually a single stone that goes with everything: the 1 ct round solitaire pendant at $150 or the 1 ct round studs at $250.

Round solitaire pendant, 1 ct, $150. One round lab-grown diamond on a chain. It is the simplest piece we make and the one most often given first. Pendant and necklace lengths explains where the chain sits.

Round studs, 1 ct, $250. A half carat in each ear. The stud that goes with everything and gets worn daily.

For someone who already has studs

For someone who already owns round studs, a new shape at the same weight, oval, radiant or a three-prong martini setting, reads as a different earring for $200 to $300.

Oval studs, 1 ct, $250 or radiant studs, 1.5 ct, $300. The same idea in a shape she may not own. Elongated stones look larger for the weight.

Round martini studs, 1 ct, $200. A three-prong setting that sits lower and closer to the lobe than a four-prong basket.

For every day

The everyday pieces are the ones that stay on through everything: 1.5 ct round huggies at $425 and the 0.75 ct half eternity band at $400.

Round huggies, 1.5 ct, $425. Small hinged hoops that close flush against the ear and stay on through hair, collars and sleep. Huggies vs hoops explains the difference.

Round half eternity band, 0.75 ct, $400. Stones across the top, plain beneath. It stacks beside any ring and can be resized. Measure first with the size guide.

For an anniversary

An anniversary gift under $500 can now carry two carats: a pair of 2 ct studs at $400 to $425, or a 1.5 ct oval solitaire pendant at $475.

Oval studs, 2 ct, $400, a carat in each ear, D to F color, VVS2. Round martini studs, 2 ct, $400. Round studs, 1.5 ct, $425. Cushion studs, 2 ct, $425, D color, VVS2. Emerald cut studs, 2 ct, $425. Two carats in a pair of earrings used to be a different kind of purchase. How big is a 2 carat diamond shows what the size means on the ear and the hand.

Oval solitaire pendant, 1.5 ct, $475. One elongated stone on a chain, sitting flat at the collarbone.

White or yellow

Every piece comes in a white finish (rhodium, the same bright white as white gold) or a yellow finish (gold vermeil). If you do not know which they wear, look at their watch or their everyday ring. When in doubt, white goes with everything.

If you do not know their size

Earrings and pendants need no size, and for the band you can ask a specialist and we will talk it through by text, or give the gift with the size to be set after. Returns cover a wrong guess.

What arrives

Each piece ships insured from 47th Street in its own box, with nothing on the outside of the package that says what is inside, and it can go straight to them if you put their address at checkout.

Over $500

The next step up is the round solitaire pendant, 3 ct at $600, the round hidden halo ring, 1.5 ct at $575, and the round solitaire, 2 ct, 2.02 ct, D VVS2, at $750: the ring that is $3,850 in 14k gold.
